Tiba-tiba lelaki itu bangun. Setengah sadar, ia mencabut selang napasnya, berusaha menuruni tempat tidurnya, terjerembab, jatuh, dan membangunkan perempuan yang tengah pulas di atas sofa. Terkejap kaget, si perempuan segera membantu lelaki kembali ke ranjangnya.
Perempuan itu, Dokter Ailin (Chelsea Islan), kemudian menanyakan nama si lelaki. Tergagap atas keadaannya, ia menyebut nama dirinya Ishmael (Iko Uwais). Ailin menggeleng dan menanyakan kembali nama asli lelaki itu. Setengah gagap, setengah bingung, si lelaki terpaku dan membisu. Pun dengan Ailin, karena dirinyalah yang memberikan nama Ishmael pada lelaki itu dari nama salah seorang tokoh dalam Moby Dick, buku yang sedang dibacanya.
The Mo Brothers, Timo Tjahjanto dan Kimo Stamboel, mencuri perhatian penonton Indonesia lewat Rumah Dara, pionir genre film horor slasher di tanah air pada 2010 silam. Tiga tahun berselang, mereka membuat sebuah film panjang bergenre psychological thriller berjudul Killers. Juga tepat tiga tahun setelah Killers, mereka merilis film panjang ketiganya bertitel Headshot.
Agaknya Mo Brothers ogah menjadi sineas yang terlelap dalam stagnasi ide. Ketiga filmnya adalah penjelajahan pelbagai genre. Jika lewat Rumah Dara mereka puas mengobrak-abrik tubuh manusia dan lewat Killers mereka puas mengacak-acak psikologi penonton, maka Headshot adalah ikhtiar Mo Brothers untuk menyajikan hibrida film laga dengan sedikit bumbu drama.
Meski bisa dibilang ujicoba, film ini tak main-main dalam memilih pemain. Tercatat beberapa artis laga kelas wahid berderet di jajaran pemain. Iko Uwais muncul sebagai pemain utama setelah mati mudah di sekuel film klasik Star Wars. Lalu ada Sunny Pang, aktor Singapura pemeran Lee. Very Tri Yulisman (Besi) dan Julie Estelle (Rika) juga seperti ditarik begitu saja dari The Raid 2. Headshot pun memberikan kesempatan pada David Hendrawan, seorang pemain wushu, dan Zack Lee, yang lebih jamak kita kenal sebagai lelakinya Nafa Urbach, untuk memerankan Tejo dan Tano. Nama-nama tadi adalah jaminan perkelahian estetik. Sedangkan kehadiran Chelsea Islan, yang tidak punya latar belakang petarung di layar perak, adalah gula yang patut dinantikan kemanisannya.
Tak hanya itu, masuknya Mo Brothers ke dalam genre laga sebenarnya menawarkan imajinasi tentang perkelahian yang tidak asal gebak-gebuk estetik. Dua film sebelumnya, Rumah Dara (Macabre) dan Killers, cukup berhasil menyajikan pendekatan sinematografi dan jalan cerita yang menjanjikan di tengah kepuasan memuncrat-muncratkan darah. Bayangkanlah guyuran darah berpadu dengan sudut rekam yang memanjakan mata dan kukuhnya alur cerita. Kita tidak saja bisa bicara tentang menyuguhkan runutan footage yang artistik, tetapi juga membentuk sebuah alternatif baru pengaya film laga.
Lalu, apakah eksekusi Mo Brothers sesuai dengan imajinasi kita tadi?
Di awal film, penonton boleh saja berharap cukup tinggi. Eksperimen Mo Brothers terlihat dengan plot yang tidak linear. Perkelahian di dalam ingatan Ishmael muncul di satu sisi dan kegiatan Lee beserta kawanannya yang mengacau muncul di sisi lain. Kedua alur itu berpindah terus-menerus sebelum bertemu di titik cerita Lee yang mengutus kawanannya membunuh Ishmael dan menculik Ailin.
Ishmael, yang telah jatuh hati, kemudian berusaha menemukan Ailin. Di tengah perjalanannya, satu per satu kawanan Lee menghadang dan berusaha membunuhnya. Perlahan-lahan teka-teki yang berantakan tersusun. Keping demi keping puzzle kisah pemisah dua alur mulai menyatu seiring disibaknya identitas Ishmael dan hubungannya dengan kawanan Lee.
Tapi, hal yang patut dipahami tentang kesulitan membuat film dengan alur tidak linear adalah menjaga kekukuhan logika. Adegan-adegan yang timbul tenggelam harus tetap masuk akal agar alur cerita dan motif para tokoh dapat dipahami. Dan, setelah film diputar 20 menit, penyakit pun menyerang Headshot.
Mo Brothers yang dengan keras kepalanya mempertahankan alur tidak linier ini hampir sepanjang film pun akhirnya harus menerima kenyataan bahwa logika filmnya juga kedodoran. Beberapa pertanyaan mendasar tentang karakter Ishmael tidak terjawab dengan tuntas. Dari sekuens tentang hilang ingatannya yang dijelaskan tanggung, bagaimana sebenarnya posisi Ishmael di kawanan Lee, hingga mengapa Ishmael akhirnya lebih memilih membelot dari Lee, tidak dijelaskan sempurna. Akhir kisah 115 menit itu pun menyisakan simpul-simpul yang masih terbuka.
Pun dengan kisah Lee sendiri, atau Ailin, atau Rika, Tejo, Tano, dan Besi yang seakan-akan hadir hanya sebagai lawan tanding Ishmael seperti musuh-musuh dalam video game. Datang untuk dikalahkan sebelum Ishmael menjejak tingkatan kesulitan berikut. Tidak ada kejelasan mengenai latar belakang dan motif mereka menantang Ishmael selain karena Ishmael dicap berkhianat, yang juga tidak dijelaskan tuntas ihwal pengkhianatan yang disebut itu.
Kesalahan minor yang mengganggu lainnya adalah bagaimana Ishmael masih bisa, dengan stamina luar biasa, berkelahi dengan sayatan-sayatan di sekujur tubuhnya. Beberapa luka bahkan segera hilang tanpa bekas dalam satu alur yang berurutan.
Konsekuensi lain yang mau tak mau ditanggung Mo Brothers dalam pemilihan pemain yakni bagaimana penonton secara tidak sadar akan membandingkan Headshot dengan The Raid 2. Pembagian protagonis dan antagonis yang serupa –Iko menjadi protagonis dan Julie, Very, Zack Lee menjadi antagonis- tidak bisa tidak mengarahkan asumsi penonton bahwa Headshot dan The Raid 2 akan memberikan pengalaman menonton yang sama.
Sayangnya, pengalaman yang diberikan saat menonton Headshot tidaklah lebih baik daripada The Raid 2. Bahkan, bisa dikatakan bahwa Headshot adalah The Raid 2 yang turun kasta. The Raid 2 menyajikan kompleksitas cerita, lebarnya kosa gambar, dan variasi adegan laga, sedangkan Headshot hanya menampilkan kesemua itu dengan terbatas saja. Nyaris tidak ada fragmen-fragmen yang khas dari Headshot yang membuat penonton bisa terngiang-ngiang setelah layar ditutup.
Pertarungan-pertarungan Ishmael dan musuh-musuhnya, meskipun berlumuran darah, juga tidak istimewa. Entah disengaja atau tidak, gaya bertarung Iko Uwais dan lainnya di film ini tidak terlalu estetik. Lebih seperti begundal-begundal yang bertarung dengan brutal. Tapi tentu saja premis ini bisa diperdebatkan. Karena dengan menghidangkan perkelahian serupa begundal, Headshot memberikan nuansa berantem yang lebih realistis.
Apabila ada yang berlebihan pun, tak lain adalah lumuran darah yang diecer di mana-mana. Dan ini wajar saja. Toh Mo Brothers sedari film pertamanya begitu royal menampilkan warna merah darah di layar. Bedanya, darah yang bermuncratan di Headshot berasal dari luka-luka yang timbul secara tidak terlampau sadis. Tidak ada pembelahan atau penusukan tubuh yang brutal khas Mo Brothers. Agaknya ketika menggarap Headshot, mereka sedang berada dalam pakem “sedikit saja lebih eksesif menampilkan darah dari pertarungan-pertarungan normal Ishmael”.
Tapi, tentu saja masih cukup banyak kabar baik dari film ini. Seperti Chelsea Islan yang tampil manis dan bisa menjadi peredam segala kebrutalan tokoh lainnya. Ia bisa memperlihatkan aneka emosi dalam waktu yang relatif cepat. Sunny Pang juga tampil prima. Ia berhasil merepresentasikan seorang godfather tua yang rapi dan dingin menyimpan keinginan-keinginan serta dendam-dendamnya.
Kabar baik lain tentu saja fragmen-fragmen perkelahian yang tak patut dilewatkan walaupun, sayangnya, beberapa perkelahian terkesan terlalu cepat rampung. Perkelahian Ishmael dan Besi serta Rika misalnya, berakhir kurang mulus dan meninggalkan kesan antiklimaks. Meskipun kita semua pun tahu bahwa porsi terbesar memang diberikan pada perkelahian utama antara Ishmael dan Lee, tapi apa salahnya memperpanjang durasi film hingga 15 hingga 20 menit untuk menyajikan akhir yang lebih sempurna dari tiap perkelahian. Penambahan durasi yang dilakukan juga bisa memberikan ruang cerita latar masing-masing tokoh berkembang sehingga plot yang tersaji lebih rapi.
Secara utuh, Headshot adalah percobaan Mo Brothers yang tidak tereksekusi sempurna. Ia betul telah mengobati kerinduan kita akan film laga panjang pasca-The Raid 2. Sayangnya, penantian panjang itu justru membuat kita, para penonton, harus mengelap lagi kedigdayaan The Raid 2 ketika selesai menonton Headshot. Padahal, andai saja, lini waktu yang digunakan dalam film tak terlampau cepat, Headshot mungkin saja lebih bertaring. Tapi intens dan cepatnya lini waktu dan alur yang disajikan membuat Headshot memperlihatkan kelelahan-kelelahan sebuah film meski kita pun tak bisa mengelak bahwa Headshot tetap berada pada jajaran film laga berkelas dari Indonesia.
Wah, saya belum nonton film ini. Basicnya saya ga suka dengan film berdarah2, termasuk the Raid yg saya terpaksa nonton bareng teman2.
